Inner Fear

Have you ever wondered why the atrium that designs for a center of activities, communities or sharing space as courtyard at our school would end up by being a drum training area, and have some events once in awhile which have no activities as more than it expected? Can these calls an empty form? What happening is it might be missed point from designer first intention, but who knew what it is when we are user and we have own decision.

As human, we are dork that can’t be explained by a reason and always have mysteries in our own way and some mystery should not be explode so much. The example is when we design community space; it has to contain with a lot of people, many stuffs and activities, so the supported area should be large and open wide to connect to other space the same as to connect to other people. Instate of invite people, these kind of space seems to push them off!! Why is something happen opposite from what we want? Like designer drive a design by a good process and result so that the work should be succeed, but at the end some designs are just space where is no user. There must be missed some part of space psychology and context, or use them a wrong way.
Have you ever been swimming in the sea and do feel uncertainly, get cold, feel bad, and get pressure for some reason. Because around you are all water, an endless sea that can connected together around the world, then while you think about it you are going to lose yourself, it does not mean that you lose your mind, but you lose control and feel unsaved that you are percept from the space. However it doesn’t happen only stay in horizontal plane area, also happen in vertical one. Such as between the high-rise building with a high void-opening and the normal storey height one, it’s strange that you feel afraid that roof going to fall down on you in the high volume when it’s takes a distance to make it, or you feel that it can easily be watching over by someone . In the other hand, in the normal space you feel secured while a thing takes a shorter time to fall down or even been watched than the first one. The benefit of taken the uncertainly psychology situation is suit for control in the space, such as in the panopticon building.

The Panopticon is a type of prison building designed by English philosopher and social theorist Jeremy Bentham in 1785. The concept of the design is to allow an observer to observe (-opticon) all (pan-) prisoners without the incarcerated being able to tell whether they are being watched, thereby conveying what one architect has called the "sentiment of an invisible omniscience." Bentham himself described the Panopticon as "a new mode of obtaining power of mind over mind, in a quantity hitherto without example."
Furthermore, the panopticon was not the first time taken the observation concept to the architecture, but in the sacred place seem to put it as the presentation of being watched that can be seen like it is a tradition.
From the first time people feel unsecured from being observed but being the production of the modern age makes people feel more anxiety that change the perspective about have to move your life just by your own. Moreover that, for some historical background can give some sick to people; at some wide opened spaces like a Red Square in Moscow, Tian An Men Square in Beijing, or even the Democracy Monument in Bangkok become a symbolic of depth dark bloody fighting historical places to their nations.
Are those factors related to anxiety condition happen to the people who use SoAD’s courtyard? Its must be another reason to support because after the school bring some bench and table in the space, it seem to invite people to use as it should again, but I guess that it won’t work in rainy season foresure.
All in all, there is no guarantee that space that we design is going to work in the end because the possibility is not all part of subset of what it is. The question is we control space or space control us? Though, they look the same but difference because of the result. As we intent to control the space and space continue to control people in some way, but reaction of people are difference depend on context, own historical background and space psychology. Like I told you before we are dork.

Without a Trace

Trace is not presence, it’s absence or what are you have known about.
Like our memories, that marks the point of absences; though the result can still be refer but difference heads are also difference points.
Even word is not detach what it is but depend what you are thinking about that word, the same as space and what you are precept from.
Trace refers to original but is not simulate. The frequencies of process are important to frame the perception.
So trace can present in many way. Whether handmade or media making it’s up to which way can trace your process as you what.

My Psychogeographical Map

THAT SHOE HUNTING MISSION!!!

If this mapping can tell my dialogue between me and space, it would tell how I remember space by stuff and attraction of that place.
This mission is about finding my that shoe at Central Plaza Rama 3. I almost walk through the entire place to find that one. Along the way I was attacked by sale sign and accessed to shops. Beside the mission, the map shows what stuffs those successes their marketing to me and how long that I spent time with them through a very thick black line.
The hunting was done when I knew that that shoe doesn’t locate to the place and I got a new shirt instant. I spent a 2.30 hour for seeking my first intend, but end up with something that I didn’t depth offer it.
Whaaa!! It’s always happen to me!!!

Profanation

Opposite is opposite
Definition of opposite things can tell from opposite side. Sacred means what is profane or profane show how sacred should be.
What is good or bad behavior?
How can we identify them? If those things we totally do as usual but it is profane to what we believe.

Thai people believe that elephant is our country’s symbol, important and sacred, as they belonged to the kings?

EMPTY FORM

Nothing is everything
By its word make me think about nothing. Because it’s empty, so it can be whatever you take. That’s weird but true that opposite word can also identify the word by itself like ‘I am what I am not’.
Flexible
Let’s think about a white canvas present as empty form. From white can easily change to anything as it open to represent something.
Massive change
From ‘nothing is everything’ to be more strange, but empty space can occur to any place which out of first intent. Renovate can keep that space to stay longer in super different way.
Negative & Positive
Positive things in the old place can create a space.

IMAGINATION CREATE THE WORLD

People drive the imagination to open their mind before face on reality or percept that what would happen next; such as fear the first emotion that human creates from thinking when we first born. It looks like we have this creation gift since we enter to this world.
If human can create even such a basic sense to learn a thing, what would happen to create the world?

For the concrete example would be James Cameron’s movie, AVATAR, as most of you have been watched these previous last long weekend, if not I recommend to watch in 3D. It does seem to prove about the imagination process of people which took his experience to imagine on basically truth. Then he try to demonstrate his world to be understand which took a 15 years long to be vision that cause him an invention of technology to prove his imagination world can be exist.
James Cameron took from the truth that today or last 15 years ago, the world is caught in crisis by our over demand and the scientists are on duty to search for the solutions, such as in cosmology way is finding a new star. Or maybe he just the man who read so much science fiction books or watched a lot of si-fi movies or product a lot of them . Whatever he was, but he was also taken from his own experience. At less he could find the best demonstration to it, though it’s mean by his own inventor. Another example, if you have been watch the BIG FISH movie, the movie that main character found that real stories were boring, so that he create his stories basically from real life to be told in fantasy way. Well he had his own strategy to transfer his imagine in the other way by also proving about the imagination process of people.
As well as we are. If we are into it, we do have imagined in our mind. So the next step is finding the best way to be true, but all in all anything can be achieved by only firmly and strongly imagination.

HUMAN PASSION CREATE JUNK SPACE

It’s good to built building that can be located anywhere in the world that is also mean can be express its own language to the world. Because of technology allowed imagination to be stronger than before, but is it all good to abandon context and surrounding stories.
For outstanding, yeah… it’s work. Then what would happen if there is a lot of art work at the same place, that space can’t be tell any story because there is no connection like the junk space.
Technology is man made with passion which is can’t win god made with reason. Context will tell how to live with nature directly, so what should we do if we want the building to be last long??
